Does a metal card work at ATMs and card machines abroad?

Your Metacard uses your own chip, so it works by insert wherever chip cards are accepted. Same PIN, same bank.

By Metacards · Updated

Yes. A Metacard carries your card's own chip, so it pays the same way your current card does when you insert it. Here's what to expect when you travel.

Card machines and ATMs

Insert the card and enter your PIN, exactly as you do now. It works at card machines and ATMs wherever chip cards are accepted, at home and abroad.

No tap-to-pay

Solid steel has no tap-to-pay (contactless). That has one upside: nobody can take a tap payment from your card in a crowd or from your pocket. For places that only take contactless, such as some transport gates, use your phone wallet. Your bank card stays linked to it as before.

Your bank stays the same

Because the chip is your card's own, your bank, card number, PIN, limits and any foreign-transaction fees stay exactly as they are today. Nothing changes on your account.

Travel tips

  • Choose "insert" whenever a machine offers tap or insert.
  • Keep your phone wallet set up for contactless-only places.
  • Your PIN is the same as before.
