Small chip or big chip? How to check your card
Check your card's chip in 10 seconds before you order: 6 contacts is small, 8 contacts is big.
Bank cards come with one of two chip sizes. Your metal card needs to match yours, so it takes 10 seconds to check before you order.
How to tell
Look at the gold chip on the front of your current card:
- Small chip: wider than it is tall, with 6 contacts. About 11 mm wide.
- Big chip: almost square, with 8 contacts. About 13 mm wide.
If you have a ruler, measuring the width is the quickest way to be sure.
Does it make a difference?
Not when you pay. Both sizes work the same at card machines and ATMs. The size only matters so your chip fits your metal card perfectly.
Still unsure?
Send us a photo of just the chip (no card number needed) on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which one you have.
On our Signature cards you choose Small chip or Big chip when you order.
